One tool to frame the photographs you bring home, and seven more to plan the nights you haven’t shot yet — the Messier, Caldwell, Sharpless, Herschel, Barnard, Abell and vdB catalogues, fully charted.
Hi there! I’m a retired Federal Law Enforcement officer, U.S. Army veteran, husband, dad, and a computer gamer who still stays up way too late. Some habits survive retirement.
In early 2026 a friend introduced me to astrophotography, and that was the end of my sleep schedule. I now own a DWARF 3 and a DWARF Mini, and the Draco is on pre-order. My wife says that’s “enough telescopes.” I say the universe is very big and I’m only getting started.
After finishing the full Messier catalog (all 110 fuzzy little smudges!), I looked at my mountain of image files and realized I’d built a filing system only a detective could love. I spent a career tracking down things that didn’t want to be found, and now I couldn’t find my own photo of the Andromeda Galaxy. There had to be a better way.
So I started tinkering with Claude AI, and what began as “let me just fix this one thing” turned into a set of tools that make cataloging your captures a lot easier and, dare I say, a little fun.
The programs here are completely free. No catch, no subscription, no fine print. Just one stargazer helping out the others.
Enjoy, and here’s to clear skies for all! 🔭
